Chinese Knife Money
(300
BC
- 200 BC)
Before the introduction of
round coins, the Chinese used a variety of other shapes of money. The
most common shape was perhaps knife money, which itself comes in a
variety of forms. The following examples are called pointed
knifes becasue the blade end of the knife has a point. There are a
number of slight variations to the pointed knifes but all forms look
similar. Some have a single character while other do not. The two
examples below heavy patinas and no visable characters.
The knifes both weigh about 18 grams.
